Dr. Kitsum Li, OTD, OTR/L, CSRS, is a tenured Professor and Doctoral Capstone Coordinator in the Department of Occupational Therapy at Dominican University of California. Born and raised in Hong Kong, Dr. Li was among the first cohorts of occupational therapists trained there before advancing her education in the United States. She earned her B.S. and M.S. degrees in Occupational Therapy from the State University of New York at Buffalo and her Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) degree from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions.
Dr. Li is a certified Stroke Rehabilitation Specialist (CSRS, and holds certifications in advanced practices like Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention, A Matter of Balance Master Trainer, FallProof, LSVT-BIG therapy, and Neurodevelopmental Treatment. Since immigrating to the U.S. in 1991, she has gained extensive experience in diverse clinical settings, including hospital rehabilitation, skilled nursing, outpatient, home healthcare, and corporate ergonomics programs.
Her research focuses on fall prevention, cognitive rehabilitation in neurological conditions, and interprofessional education. Some of Dr. Li’s recent peer-reviewed publications cover topics such as occupational therapy interventions post-concussion, systematic reviews on motor and balance interventions, and the effectiveness of digital engagement in fine motor exercise programs. She frequently presents at national and international conferences on evidence-based clinical strategies, with
presentations on occupational therapy in cardiac intensive care units, innovative behavioral interviews for OT program admissions, and interprofessional collaboration in stroke rehabilitation.
Dr. Li is dedicated to advancing occupational therapy through teaching, research, and advocacy. She continues to inspire the next generation of practitioners and actively contributes to the professional community by reviewing research grants, manuscripts, and developing evidence-based resources for clinicians.
