Abstract
This panel aims to generate an international conversation on teaching centric institutions and careers. The goal of the roundtable is to foster an open discussion on teaching centric institutions and careers with a focus on current pedagogical and financial difficulties. Participants will explore current questions related to their individual experiences at higher-education institutions around the world. While many higher education institutions in the United States face declining enrollment, non-US based schools deal with other economic challenges. These financial difficulties come at a time when students need more support and guidance. Participants will reflect on declining student engagement due to pandemic, expanding mental health needs of students and teaching IR at a time of interstate and civil wars, political polarization and climate crisis. The panel will explore the following questions: What are the best strategies to support students with limited resources? How do financial challenges influence teaching centric careers? Finally, what is in the future of your institution/career? In short, this panel will have something for all teacher-scholars and should engage experienced instructors, early-career faculty and advanced graduate students.
